Energy Research, Inc. has been involved in the development of models for analysis of spent fuel pool under fully dry accident conditions using the OpenFOAMĀ®, open source CFD tool.

In addition, multi-dimensional models have been developed for simulation of liquid metal faster reactor subassemblies under natural convection conditions. This CFD model has been used to study flow redistribution effects under mixed and free convection conditions. The model uses a novel numerical marching technique that execute very efficiently under transient simulation conditions.
